Creating a distinctive and special funeral ceremony
I offer a compassionate, reassuring and professional service to bereaved families and individuals. At a time of what may well be overwhelming distress, and when you might feel in unfamiliar territory, I can be with you every step of the way to help to create a distinctive and special funeral ceremony for the person who has died.
A funeral is a time to celebrate the life of that unique person, to bid them a final farewell with dignity, respect and love in the way that YOU want. It should be a highly personal ceremony, which not only fulfils the needs of you and other close family and friends, but also meets the expectations of everyone who comes to pay their last respects.
My role
My role is to guide you through the process of the funeral ceremony; to listen to your wishes; and, if needed, to offer practical suggestions about the content and structure of the service.
Usually, I will have an initial chat with you to arrange a convenient time to come and have a relaxed and informal meeting with you and your family. When we meet, I will listen to your thoughts on the shape you would like the Service to take. I will ask you to talk about the life of the deceased, and to tell me about the sort of person they were, and what you will remember most about them.
Music and Poetry
If you would like me to, I can recommend music and poetry which suits the personality and lifestyle of the person who has died. Family members and friends may wish to contribute to the funeral by delivering a tribute, reading a poem, or singing, and we would discuss all of this at our meeting. This first appointment normally lasts around 1 ½ hours. I will then design and compose the words for the Service, before sending you a draft copy. You will have an opportunity to amend this, or to add to, or remove from it, before it is finalised. On the day of the funeral, I will meet you at the crematorium, reassure you, and officiate; and afterwards I will send you a full presentation copy of the whole Service.
Next steps
My inclusive fee for this is currently £180, which is in line with other celebrants in the area. If you would like more than one copy of the full Service, I am happy to provide this for a small additional charge.
